I accidentally deleted my recycle bin from my desktop. I didn't think much of it and just created a new shortcut to it and pasted onto the desktop.
However now the graphic doesn't change to show whether it is empty or full. Sometimes it shows one and sometimes it will show the other but it doesn't change when you add or delete something as it should.
Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone help me solve it?

    Thanks.

Oh, and I'm running windows vista home premium 32bit.

right click on the center of the screen and select personalize, then top left of screen change desktop icons.

put a tick in the one for the recycle bin.

I have deleted it myself a number of times!

I'm not sure where the recycle bin would be, but try to re-install (windows items) using the Programs and Features in control panel.

    Follow what robohunter said.

    Then look at this page

It has some handy tips on how to stop you accidentally deleting the recycle bin...

Same thing from that page works in XP as well.

Just do the following to remove the delete option

HE MUST BE KIDDING, WE CANNOT REMEMBER NOT TO CLICK DELETE

HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING :D :D :D

    ****************************************************
    1) Launch regedit (See more details on starting regedit)

    2) In Regedit, navigate to the following key:
    HKCR\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

    3) To create a new registry Key called 'Shell', click on the Edit Menu, New, select: Key and name it 'Shell'. You should now have:
    HKCR\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell

    3) Under Shell create a new (Sub) Key called 'Delete'. Click on the Edit Menu, New, select: Key. You should now have:
    HKCR\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell\Delete

    4) Edit the 'Default' REG_SZ, as this is just a string value for display you could set to anything you like, for example 'YourName's Indestructible Bin'.

Sorry, that's the way I did restore it to the desktop but I still get the problem with not having the correct icons displayed.
I deleted it as I was flying around shifting and deleting files, I thought I'd put something in the trash and just right clicked it and went to the point on the option list I needed but I hadn't moved anything to the trash and so hit the wrong option and deleted the whole thing!
    Less haste more speed..... lol

Definitely a virus, format everything and install MAC OSX.
    /BS

Seriousely now,as Robo Hunter said, right click, personalize, change desktop icons.

Or more extreme, load a restore point.

That won't work; OS X doesn't have a recycle bin... just a trash can. :(

    Yup, that's it.

I'm not sure if that would even work because supposedly system restore doesn't restore your personal files, and your desktop is under your home dir so it may be considered personal stuff.
