I just got a new netbook. It takes a pretty long time to shut down.
I typed "regedit" in the 'Run' and I changed some numbers there to quicken the shut down time. I did this by referring to a couple of websites.
What should I do? What numbers are the best to put in? I know those numbers represent milliseconds or something.
Can anyone help?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Randomly editing your registry without knowing what you're doing = bad.

@djl4, I always put it to 2000, worked for me. -
There is a thread on NBR, NBRVistaTips andTweaks, has a bit in it about reducing your shutdown time.
-
Yeah, maybe I shouldn't have messed around with it.
Thank you for replying. -
As Les suggest', don't mess with the shutdown time too much, because Vista needs some time for shut off every thing. I wouldn't go beyond 5000, if you really want to reduce it. Though I must say, I haven't changed it (one of the things I passed on in the awesome guide from Les) and its fine for me. Wonder why some are worried about wanting to shutdown Vista in like 2 seconds!!!!!! Just let it do its normal thing, and I can tell you it doesn't take a 'long' time to shutdown.

mine's set to 9000 and it's fine
-
I always put it 1000 on xp
-
I have XP, not Vista.
By the way, which values should I put 1000 to? The Hung...and the Wait..
I forgot the names. Sorry. -
That extra shutdown time comes in handy. I've forgot to save word documents and its saved an hour of work.
-
HungAppTimeout and WaitToKillAppTimeout
just remember always save your work!
if want faster shutdown, before you push the shutdown button, hold ctrl
try it -
Just pull the power plug out - instant shutdown!
I did that for a full year to prove to a friend it wouldnt break anything (hardware or software) easiest and quickest 10 quid i ever made. Seriously its just a huge myth that yanking the power cord out will break it. I never had a problem. -
since you're using a netbook i'll assume you're using XP....
all the regedit shutdown tweaks are described in the minor sticky,, that's also listed in my sig.:

Aren't netbooks designed to startup and shutdown relatively fast lol.
Reduce shut down time through regedit
