Hi, i would like to know how much performance gain would i get if i reformat my new computer. Please note that i uninstall all the "junkware" i get with my new computer and that i use registry mechanic to clean out all the bad registry.

Well I am not sure exactly how much of a performace boost that you will get. However when you start windows it should startup faster.

it's not just about performance. it's about system integrity. don't think just cuz you uninstalled and used some 3rd party reg cleaner that your system is clean. -
-
sorry. what i mean by system integrity is that if you uninstall/regclean, you will still have leftover empty folders, compressed executables, and hanging registry entries. it's not like your computer is going to explode, it just means that you have opened up the door for more potential problems than if you wipe the HD clean and start with a fresh install of XP and then you only install what you want/need. installed apps have a way of digging their claws deep into your system and uninstalling them doesn't get rid of everything.

The only way to get rid of ALL the left overfiles is to format. But dont think that this is the only way to get rid of the bloatware that will have a negative impact on you. add/remove programs and registry cleaners do help alot. Use msconfig to keep programs from starting that you dont use everyday. google windows tweaks to find other way to make your computer run smoother and faster. defrag regularly. GL

it will be faster in my opinion, but you don't have to reformat to gain a performance increase. A simpler option is to defragment and cleanup your HDD regularly. You can find these helpful tools within windows, by going to all progams - accessories - system tools in the start menu.
After doing this, I noticed a significant increase in speed.
But the "freshest" way is to simpply reinstall your drive like everyone else suggested. -

I wonder how people format and reinstall because IE locked up? I didnt see an option on the poll for "how often do you format" thread for everytime IE locks up, probably cause you'd spend more time installing/formatting than actually using windows? And instead of being a windows user, you could call yourself a windows installer!

Much faster! I once saw a member on the forum he had an 7800 Go Inspiron 9400... he had a score of 2500 3dmark05... after reinstalling windows 6800...
Reformatting after getting your notebook is a thing to do for sure!
