Hey,
I am trying to reformat my Toshiba M115 due to mass amounts of viruses my sister put on the computer.
I dont have a real copy of Win Xp saved on a disc but I have a copy someone made me. After many tries with errors of missing files I got it to reformat and load.(Due to scratches i guess)
Now is it asking for a Product key and for some reason the one on the bottom of the laptop isnt working. Nor is the one on the bottom of my other laptop.
Any help??
-
Are you asking for Windows product key?
-
I have a valid one but for some reason it is saying it is invalid.. I need some advice on how to fix my problem..
-
-
Um would you beable to link me to it.. Because I am unaware of exactly what you are speaking of.. (A CD Key Gen for XP)? Would that work without cracking the program first??
-
Here is the link but I invite you to google it because some people say that is a spyware, which I don't believe because my spyware doesn't detect it at all. Use it at your own risk.

You could download it and then remove it when you don't need it anymore. -
correct me if i am wrong but this isnt for xp..
-
I would say yes, I have used it for Vista though.
-
It only gives me a vista key i need XP
-
Google it, check for produkey for XP and see what it comes out.
-
Which OS did you originally have in the M115 ?? (Win XP Pro SP2 ??)
-
originally it was media edition I think. I put a xp pro sp1 cd in to reformat tho
-
I could tell you a program that would pull the key from your current install and display it, but it wouldn't help you. If the key on the bottom of your laptop doesn't work then it won't work.
Also I have trouble trusting you... (Sorry if I'm wrong here). You said you reformatted the computer already so how exactly did you run that program Wirelessman linked to? Unless of course you're trying to use a key already used by another computer, which you aren't licensed to do and is therefor copyright infringement.
Order a replacement restore disc from your computer manufacturer. It might run you $30. Unless the computer didn't come with XP, in which case you don't own a copy and likewise will need to buy on from Microsoft. -
Then I am sure that the key under your notebook was for XP Media Center Edition and won't work for XP Pro SP1/SP2/SP3.
You'll need to get a XP Media Center Edition Disc from someone/somewhere, or buy an unlicensed copy of it.
(There are probably work-arounds, which I don't know of....)
And the key that is under your other notebook won't work either, as OEM keys are not transferrable and only work for a particular OS, and that particular machine. -
I have 2 laptops one is my sisters toshiba that she messed up.. and I am using a pro disc because I dont have a media cd. And the computer I am typing on is mine.. Sorry for trying to be a good big brother and fix the computer.. I didnt steal jack s***.. plus as you can c i ordered a $2000 w500 so why steal anything..
-
There's no reason to get upset man. You would be surprised how many people post here looking for assistance in theft. I apologize if I'm wrong.
As Andy said the media center edition key won't work with pro. That's where the issue is caused. You'll need a copy of Media Center edition as Andy said.
Call up the manufacturer or see if you can find the disc on Ebay. -
Microsoft was very stringent w.r.t. OEM keys during the XP era. XP OEM keys worked with the particular OS, and on the original machine only. That key should work for a MCE installation on your M115, or you can just buy a new OEM copy of XP. They're not that expensive these days. (Check out EBay Auctions)

You should use Linux then
. That sort of illegal stuff may become a felony soon.
(BTW, I searched Ebay for that disc and couldn't find anything. Did all the MCE 2005 computers use recovery partitions or something?) -
