Hey, I have heard from numerous people that the microsoft windows that comes packaged with prebuilt systems can be returned to microsoft for a refund if you decline the EULA at before installing it.
I am very very VERY!!! interested in doing this, as it is an necessary $100 addition to a system I'm looking to buy, especially since it'll be running linux.
Does anyone have instructions for doing this? Steps to follow? 100% guarantee? I'm in Canada if that helps.
Thanks
PS. Does this only apply to the latest windows, or can I use it if the computer comes with Vista as well?

The OEM-pre-install price of windows is a very very small fraction of the 'full retail price'.
Small system builders who don't have access to the OEM-pre-installs that Dell, HP, et al use will usually laugh a bit when this gets brought up unless you press them at the point of sale to sell you 'bare' hardware. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on the phone. -
Last I checked, the pre-packaged OEM is worth ~$30 for win7.... Vista would be worth what... $10?

Thanks. I don't mind that it's only $30ish, I'd rather keep the money than give it to mircosoft though

Both closed-source systems (OSX more so) by greedy unethical corporations.
But I shan't incite an OS flame war, I just want to install some Debian and get a refund on my windows key.
Thanks for the replies, I'll contact the reseller then.
Cheers.
