Hi, I just bought an Asus g50vt x1 refurbished and I was wondering what diagnostics and checks I should run on it tomorrow when i get it to make sure everythings okay. Other than cosmetic checks that is.

Thanks guys and move this if need be, sorry if its in the wrong part.

And, im fairly knowledgeable about computers so feel free to post any checks regardless of difficulty

    thanks

Off the top of my head I would suggest downloading HD Tune and scanning for errors. I'll try and rack my brain for a few more.

    And welcome to NBR :)

Isn't there some RAM testing software called "memtest" or so?

Also, does Asus provide any hardware monitoring software?
I think - stress think - Vaios have a set of tools to monitor and test your hardware.

Sorry for the late response, I've been busy this weekend.

I would see this thread for monitoring your temps, then download 3dMark06 and run it a few times. Watch your temps to make sure they don't get above 90C.

You can check the scores of the results online or here to make sure they're up to par.

Yes, memtest is a good idea. Here is a good guide on how to use it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=142746

    Other things to check..
-make sure your power setting is set to "High Performance"
-check out the Vista Tweaks thread for info on how to speed up Vista a bit
