Hi, im considering buying a notebook review XoticPC. Ive configured it so that my OS would be XP, but i was wondering, I had my computer custom built for me, and with it i had revieved a windows xp installation disc that had "To be distrubuted with a new PC" written on it. I was wondering if instead of paying the extra 90 dollars to get Windows XP installed from xotic pc, if i could just use this cd I already have, and the cd key i have to install XP onto my notebook instead?

What you probably got was an OEM copy of Windows rather than retail. The difference between the two is that retail can be installed, then later removed and installed on a different computer. Where OEM is only licensed to operate on one computer ever. So since it was already installed on your other computer, your license probably doesn't grant you the right to use it on this one... Even if you remove the old one first.

However it might work... I thought I read somewhere that Microsoft lightened up on that restriction...
