    Hi everyone,

Today Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 service pack 1 showed up in my Windows update.

Anyway, I'm having trouble installing this update.
I keep receiving the error "0x80070002", and yes, I tried Microsoft's troubleshooting steps.

    Any idea? Thanks!

Are you sure your running Windows Vista?

Vista runs .NET Framework 3.0, as far as I know.

    hmmmm...
and yes I'm running Windows Vista.

    thanks for replying.

Vista use .NET 3.0 not the 1.1 & I think you're getting that error due to incompatibility. :)

Yeah... I'm beginning realize that. However, that annoying update won't go away even when I set it to "hidden". :(

Vista happens to ship with .Net 3 however some other applications rely on older versions of the .Net library. The older versions can coexist with the newer ones. Most likely the OP has some application installed that requires .Net 1.1 and the app installer not finding it on his machine installed it. Then during the next update cycle Windows Update noted that the SP1 for .Net 1.1 had not been installed.

Hi. I have the same problem with the Net frameworks service pack 1 update on Vista Business. I uninstalled the .net frameworks 1.1 and everything is ok so far so good. No SP 1 update at the windows update. But, were I can see if I have Frameworks 3???. Do I really need frameworks 1.1??

I have to agree with this here. Sounds like the best explanation.
Like zfactor said, MS should fix this issue soon. If it bothers you that much you can either disable automatic updates or uninstall .Net 1.1, so it'll stop trying to update it.

.Net 3 should have came installed with your notebook (I'd assume). Check your Add/Remove list, it should be there.

Well this is VERY strange. I got the same error this morning. The problem is I already have .Net 1.1 and SP1 installed on my machine because of the application I develop. This is VERY strange indeed.

Vista Update for Dot Net SP1 issue

I manually applied the update as suggested then reran Wiundows Update which goes through the motions of applying the Service Packa as well but does not fail this time!
