What's a good software to fix registry issues that happen after a while as a result of using windows. A free one would be nice!

Crap Cleaner

I used to use it and it did an okay job for a free program. I currently use Ashampoo's Winoptimizer, which doesn't do too much, but enough for my needs. -
RegScrubXP works too.

WinAll softwares RegVac is awesome. Fully cleans the registry and you can also defrag it. It's $30 but well worth it.

Disclaimer:
I once used RegScrubXP... not that I would know whether or not it was doing exactly what it was supposed to, but it seemed to be doing a good job. And then one day when I was preparing a powerpoint presentation (and was under some rather tight time constrictions, I might add), I attempted to do a regular save of the file and my computer notified me that there was insufficient hard drive space to complete the save. That was after adding about two more pictures and some text, with about 22 gigs left on the HDD (the .ppt file was ~50 megs). I assumed it to be a result of some registry scrubbing. I attempted to merge the registry backup changes provided by the program, but that did not fix the problem. Unistalling it (RegScrub), of course, did not help either. I had also noticed that some functions in my AutoCAD program ceased to exist, which was also a great disappointment. Seeing no other option, I backed up my data, and the presentation (what I could of it since I couldn't save my final work), activated the 'restore system to factory state' option on my ThinkPad, and never had a problem since (and never tinkered with the registry in any way either).
I have abstained from modifying it to such a degree because I have also had terrible problems with it in the past on other computers, and have learned my lesson: Only make changes in it if you really know what you are doing, like, really.
This may not all be accurate, but it is my experience, and when I want to fix the registry, I do a hard drive wipe to start fresh, and go from there.
I hope this gives some insight. -
Never have had a problem with it.

Me neither. I have actually used RegScrubXP before and have never had any issues with it, but I was asking to see if there are any other good options out there.
I installed the TuneUp Utilities 2006. They seem to have some nice tinkering around features. I'll give this software a try till the end of the trial period
I guess the best option for optimization remains TuneXP (I prefer defraging thru it rather than thru XP) and some basic registry scruber/cleaner like RegScrubXP -
I should add to my previous post that reinstalling the AutoCAD program on my computer (and thus re-writing its registry values) solved the problems that I had thought were caused by the RegScrubXP program. To make sure that this was the case, I ran RegScrubXP again after reinstalling AutoCAD, and the same problems I had had previously popped up immediately afterward. This was enough to convince me that it was having negative effects.
