Hello, and thank you in advance. I bought an HP Pavilion dv9260NR in 2007and later installed MS Office Home & Student with a disc; I have both the disc and the product key. The laptop recently died and a new motherboard and a clean install of Vista Ultimate were done. Office Home & Student was preinstalled, but the product key wouldn't activate it. I uninstalled it and used the disc to install the program, but the product key still won't activate it. I bought the program on Amazon, and the disc says it's "genuine", but somewhere in my attempts to activate it now, there was a notice that it's not a key recognized in the USA. Any ideas how I can get this thing to work? I'm computer literate but not trained in IT, so please keep it simple. Thanks.

You can call MS and tell them about your situation, given that you have a legit copy and key, they should sort you out. Their customer service is surprisingly good in those instances usually.
