    Everyone

I have problem with my window7.

Some time back I installed IE7 by mistake and after that it started giving me "No such interface" error whenever i right click on my computer. I read many places and tried to re regitser some drivers but no use.

Now I think I get other statup errors etc.

I have got the windows 7 upgrade cd from HP.

Now my question is can I reinstall windows7 again without all my existing data being lost or I will loose all my data.

I have many applications like visual studio and others which I dont want to loose.

So what option do i need to select if i insert this upgrade cd.

    Would appreciate your replies

try booting from the upgrade disk and see if it give you a 'repair' option.

Have you tried to force-reinstall IE8???

Your subject makes it sound as if you want to reinstall Windows 7, but it appears that you're more interested in re-installing IE8, is this correct?

Perhaps someone can confirm this as I have not needed to do this myself, but if you go to:

"Control Panel" -> "Programs and Features" -> "Turn Windows features on or off"

Locate the "Internet Explorer 8" check box. Is the IE8 box checked or unchecked?

If it is checked, then uncheck it and reboot. Come back and check it. If it is unchecked, check it. At some point I think Windows should reinstall IE8.

no not only ie8 both other dll errors I can see on startup etc. So I guess my windows is kind of screwed up, will try to repair and see if it works.

My question was if i reinstall without formatting will i loose all mydata

Reinstall IE8 FIRST and ONLY from an installer you d/l from microsoft.com

A repair install of Win7 is a last-resort kind of action.

If any of this intimidates you, find help from a knowledgeable/trusted friend. Stay away from Geek Squad.

Regardless of what people tell you or what you read, you should ALWAYS make copies of your user files when screwing around with the OS. Far better to have unneeded copies than to need copies and not have them.

If you do proper backups before install, you will not lose any data and sun shines all weekend.

If you don't make the backups, something will go wrong and you lose all the data and it's probably cold and rainy weekend anyways :p

So please think of everyone else and give us sunny weekend :)
