    Right,

After several problems with windows, i now have another problem, and i think its quite big and was wondering if anyone could help me.

I reinstalled windows XP Pro and now have no drivers. I have a Gateway 3525GB. I have managed to install the network and ethernet ones so that i can get online though the router and a cable. But i really need my wireless and all other drivers back (i.e. sound, video, you know the ones i mean).

I am a bit useless when it comes to things like this to be honest. Now i dont have any of the recovery disks or anything like that, so just got what i needed quickly from the internet.

Now when i try to look for my wirless LAN card in the device manager, it is not appearing. It was always there before, as i was always on wireless before. Any ideas on:

1st) how to get my wireless stuff back so that i can connect up at home again without having to sit next to the router.

2nd)how i can get the rest of my drivers back, as they seem to have all disappeared.

3rd)when i start up windows, i have to hit enter on a black screen to choose windows xp professional as my choice of operating system. There are only 2 options both the same. The top one works (i am on it now) and i have not tried the second one. Is there a way to stop me having to choose one of the options.

    Thanks Everyone :D

No. 3 first: Start > Run > MSCONFIG > Boot.ini, then delete the entry you don't want.

You should have a load of yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager which represent all the devices that it can't figure out because it doesn't have the drivers. XP can only install the drivers that were around when XP was built.

Head over to Gateway drivers and downloads and feed in your serial number and see if it points you to the right drivers.

Just tried this and they are both exactly the same. Will they be listed as they are when that black screen comes up?? i.e. Can i delete the 2nd one as its second in the list and on the black screen?

Also, there is no delete option for either of the systems, so when i want to delete one of them, i cant. Any help??

AFAIK the boot order is the sequence in which they are listed. If you have got Explorer set to show all files then you can delete the unwanted line using Notepad. However, I would first do a trial by editing the text between quotes for each entry so they are different, then confirming which one is needed.

Edit the boot.ini file in Notepad. The file is in C:\. You may need to be an administrator and get Explorer to show you the system files.

Alternatively, My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings. Then reduce the time to display the list of operating systems.

More important, did you sort out your drivers?

    Thanks for the update.

The remaining problem is the modem. It would be tidy to get that sorted out, but if you don't use it then it's not a key issue.

I would also recommend that you collect a full set of all the drivers and downloads for your computer from the Gateway website and then get them onto a CD in case you every need to do another reinstallion.

You can also get XP SP3 from Microsoft, if it is not coming through automatically, and get your XP fully patched and up-to-date.
