This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Reinstalled vista and ata channel reverts to ide

    I just reinstalled vista on my asus m50sv and I noticed that after some windows updates, the driver under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager for ATA Channel 0 reverts to something like IDE Channel. I have to uninstall the device and reinstall it manually, so that it becomes ATA Channel 0 again. Anyone have any clue why that is happening or how I can stop it from happening again?
