We could, but we don't want to teach you to bypass someone's password. Sorry :(

    1. Let's put this in the right forum.

    2. You should be able to boot off a Windows installation /recovery CD and do a new installation. However, it might wipe the old Windows installation. If the BIOS has been locked to prevent booting from the optical drive then you've got a different problem, and more difficult to solve. Hacking BIOS passwords is definitely off-limits for discussion.

Wrong forum, and besides, were not sure if you didnt steal that laptop.
Im sorry, thats the sad truth.
However, there are plenty of guides out there on reinstalling Windows XP, a lot of good ones can be found here.

Well as long as the mod said it is ok to talk about this...

If you just want to reinstall XP and don't care about retrieving old files, do as John Ratsley said. Just insert the XP CD and install as normal. You can find countless guides on google. Or this is a good one : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=81828

If you want to be able to retrieve the old files, use GParted to shrink the current partition & create a new one, then install the fresh copy of Windows to the newly created partition. Once Windows is up and running, take possesion of the old password locked files by following this walk-through from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421
