I have an old PC with a copy of windows received with my laptop. I would like to reinstall windows 7 to erase all my drive and set up a new computer.

How do I keep the serial and will I not have conflict issues if I reinput the same serial on the laptop?

If the existing Windows installation is preinstalled by the manufacturer (OEM) then use ABR Backup and Restore application to safely transfer the activation status to your new clean install. But if it comes from a retail/upgrade CD then you probably want to use Advanced Tokens Manager instead to transfer the activation license.

I'm not sure i clearly understand some parts of your posts. Can you backup your activation when you want to reinstall on the same computer, yes (see above post). However, you can't use the same windows license on more than one computer at a time and if it is an OEM license, it is tied to the computer it was originally installed on so you can't even transfer it to another computer even if you uninstall it from the computer it was originally on.

My daughter just corrupted her Win7 installation with a virus last week. I had to reinstall the OS with the downloaded Win7 SP1 ISO. Once installed as an upgrade I used a key reader to read from the Windows.old directory the license code, BTW OEM key. I also did the same for her Office 2007 Student teacher as well. That I downloaded as well from M$. Once installed I pulled her data files back and all is gold again

My PC came with windows vista and I then upgraded to windows 7. Can I still use ABR?

Nope, but advanced token manager will do the job.
