I just received my Dell i6000.
It came with Windows Media Center as the OS.
I would like to install XP Pro, but I keep getting an error saying my current version of windows in newer than the XP version so I cannot install.
When I restart it never gives me the option to boot from the CD.
I checked the BIOS and did not see a place to change the boot devices.
Any Dell owners know how to boot from a CD???

Isn't MCE a more media oriented version of Pro?
In BIOS, there should be that option, just look around, there is a small list somewhere to primary boot/secondary boot/etc.
Why the change though? -

Yes - you have to change the boot device list - put the CD drive as #1.
Actually, Media Center is XP Home with a bunch of add-ons...it's logical because MCE is $125, where XPP is $149.
Chaz -
Right. MCE doesn't have the ability to join a Windows Domain, so it's more like WinXP Home.

I did look in the BIOS...there is no setting for boot devices, or order.
I have changed this on my PC's before, but the BIOS on the Dell does not give me the option.
I need to be able to connect the PC to both my home network and it has to be able to join my work domain. If I am correct media center is just home with a few extra "media" features (which I dont need). That being said XP home has network compatibility issues, so I assume media center will have these same issues?
Plus I really want to get rid of all the bloatware Dell pushes on its customers. -
K, I guess my questions were answered in the two posts above.
Any Dell owners know how to change the boot order?
BIOS update maybe? -
Sorry guys...Im dumb.
When booting the notebook I had to hit F12...then I can choose what to boot from (my desktops just recoginize when a CD is in the drive and I can hit any key to boot from the CD).
Thanks for the help though!
