While I was playing game and I hit alt+tab to get back to the previous browser and all of a sudden all my icons vanished. So I restarted the computer and got some back. Below is a picture of my desktop. Please let me know what I need to do to get all the icons back to normal. Thanks

Edit: Where did "reload this page" came from?

if they're my computer, my documents, etc. icons, try customize desktop under (right click) -> properties -> desktop, and you can restore the icons to default

Try right clicking your desktop. Then go into the "arrange icons by" and make sure "show desktop icons" is checked.

    Good luck :)

in that case you can try right click on the icons and go to properties, and you should see "change icon", or you can delete all those icons and create new ones.
both ways can get pretty annoying though

Tweak UI has an option to repair icons.

Next time it happens, right click on the desktop and select "refresh". Always works for me when my icons copy each other or have that generic icon.

I had this exact same issue happen to me yesterday. I still havnt figured out how to fix it though... My initial reaction was to refresh the desktop, change the icons manually, or customize the desktop as you all had said. None of these work though. Hmm I'm thinking it has something to do with online gaming and the change in desktop resolutions. Any OTHER ideas? lol

EDIT :: Ok... if anybody else gets this problem from a game that changes your resolution. What you need to do is

    1) exit from the game.

    2) restart the game

    3) exit again from the game and restart your computer

These 3 steps worked for me and it seems to work now.

I second the usage of Tweak UI. Likely your icon cache got corrupted, Tweak UI can wipe it so the icons are all re-loaded. (under the 'repair' section)
