Chrome doesn't seem to "fix" itself after a (low bandwidth/all eye candy disabled) Remote Desktop session - whereas most other programs will re-render themselves right after you unlock the computer in person, Chrome does not, so things like Cleartype font smoothing don't come back and images are still rendered in 16-bit color.
Is there any workaround for this?

That's strange. What is the OS of the remote host? Does it happen only on that machine or you see this on other hosts as well? Is there a big version difference in the OS of your machine(the one you use to connect to the remote host) and the host?

It's Windows 7 SP1 on all machines involved, and I've tried on about a dozen ranging from laptops to desktops to VMs.

I'm assuming you can't just turn up the quality on the RDP session to work around this?

Yeah, looks like a Chrome bug. Can't think of any workaround though I believe Chrome has a restore themes option somewhere, maybe you could try that..

And of course, no VPN = no RDP. -
Remote Desktop sessions break Chrome's Cleartype font smoothing?
