    Hi to all...

I just installed the new Nero 8.1.1.4 on my Vista Home Premium. I only installed some applications (Nero StartSmart and Nero BurningRom), but It always install the annoying Nero Scout. It gives the option of disable the service, but I want to REMOVE IT completely of the system. I've done the following:

Open Run and typing this: regsvr32 /u "%CommonProgramFiles%\Nero\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll"

Once I run the command, I receive an error 0x80070005

    Please, help me...

    Thanks in advance

Open my computer then right click on "nero scout" and hit options. Uncheck "enable nero scout" to disable it.

this will disable it but the old command line from version 7 would actually remove nero scout from the system altogether.. im pretty sure thats what the op wants here...im still looking myself

has anyone found an answer to this.. even though you disable scout fully it still runs 2 services. these run no matter if scout is active or not and they were using around 6-8mb of ram on my system. i want them to not even start with windows. anyone found a way to totally remove scout yet?

Open a command prompt and type "services.msc". Find the processes and either disable them (probably not a good idea) or change them to manual.

Oh, and I found this link after one Google search for "nero 8 remove scout":

Apparently it works like a champ.

that works in nero 7 but not in nero 8. you get an error in nero 8 with that command line. nero 8 only allows it to be disabled but its services still run. even going to your services list and disabling the indexing for nero.. after a reboot its turned back on again.. this sucks. for now ive removed nero. also there is no way short of blocking it from the firewall to block nero from phoning home to ahead to do a serial check. yes my copy is legit but i dont care i dont like my programs phoning home.. no way.. so for now its gone.. i just cant find anything else as good

Did you happen to read the responses to the original post?

If you have nero 8, it’s a bit different, instead of ahead, trype nero, so you get this:

    regsvr32 /u “%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\Nero\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll”

is there an option to not install it in the first place? for ex. in mocrosoft office you can choose each app instead of indtalling everything.

You haven't considered just not using Nero in the first place? They can't make decent burning software, so instead they pack their products with irrelevant nonsense like Nero Scout, which *also* sucks, but at least there's more of it.

I don't know, it just doesn't seem like a very tempting deal to me.

No, that is only for disabling Scout. There is no way to stop Nero from checking their servers, other than running a software firewall and then restricting access. However, I don't know what effect that will have on the applications. Try it and see.

yeah i mean i know i paid for it and i know its legit but it makes one wonder what else they can find out since nero bury's itself so deep into the system.. maybe im paranoid but i dont like it at all

also did version 7 have the same feature ?? if so i just firewalled it and never had a issue but i thought the call home thing was new for version 8??

Nero 7 did not "phone home". This is new for Nero 8. I own Nero 8 and am not worried in the least about Nero contacting the servers.

What do you mean by "bury's [sic] itself so deep into the system"? AFAIK, Nero doesn't monkey with the OS any more than other applications.

Oh, Nero 7 phones home alright. After I bought it, and installed it again (because I reformatted my computer), once I was using Nero while online, suddenly I get a popup saying something like "This Nero product key has already been installed on another computer", and it gave me a choice to say "I reinstalled the software" or something else I can't remember. Stupid. Needless to say, I don't use it while online anymore.

The Registry hack doesn't work at all on Scout 8. And I have double clicked on My Computer bigtime and no sign of Scout...and yes I have hidden files revealed.
