    I am having an issue trying to get rid of dual boot menu. I am trying to boot into Xp. Under Startup and Recovery my default OS is XP home. "Time to display list of operating systems is uncheck. I went into boot.ini file. this is what i have.
    ;
    ;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
    ;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
    ;
    [boot loader]
    timeout=0
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT

    for some reason after i reboot my system, there is still a boot menu. What am i doing wrong? Do I get rid of the first three lines...

    if i read your boot file correctly your running vista or am i wrong?
    cuz if you use vista you need to use BCEDIT.exe from a commandprompt with administration rights and change it from there something i dont know how to do

    if anyone wonders how i came to the conclusion that its a vista boot file its from the fact that is says:
    ;
    ;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
    ; Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.

    yes, i was running vista before but i had too many issues with it. I deleted Vista and all i have now is XP. My drive is partitioned into 2. C: is XP and D: was Vista. I deleted D. What do i need to do to just boot into XP. Do I delete the first two lines of boot.ini file?

    im not sure on how vista handles this but if vista behaves like i think it does it removed the original xp boot.ini file and replaced it with its own if you have a XP install disk nearby try "repairing" your xp by choosing the repair option on the disk it should rewrite the boot file and remove the menu

    Go to start>run, type msconfig, click on Boot.ini, then click Check all boot paths. If you have indeed removed your Vista properly, this will get rid of the dual boot menu.

    Since the Vista Boot is probably still there, I would install VistaBootPRO on XP and then click manage OS entries button.
