Hello Forum
I wanted to get a Dell XPS 1330, like the size, feel, and keyboard size. but I use a piece of medical equip that will only run with Win XP. I read on the Forum a poste by SNOWBRO about replacing or putting XP on a 1330.
Can I buy a new XPS or for that matter other brand say toshiba...and get the Vista completely removed and put win XP in as a replacement.
Any help would be a blessing.
Thanks to all you folks.

why not just by a macbook and save yourself the headache. The OsX 10 will never give you any problems.

Though Silas might be a little harsh, he is right. There is tons of documentation in every subforum of this board describing how to do it with multitudes of laptops, each with specific directions on how it would be done. I'd use the search function for "XP on M1330" or something to that effect.
Man, people on this forum just get stupider by the minute. (Now it's my turn to be harsh)
PS, Mr. Mac Fanboy - It's OSX, as in X being the roman numeral for 10. So OSX or OS10 work, but not OSX 10. -

maybe the app works great on vista? most apps from xp work great on vista, some need some little tweaking (start as admin, compatibility mode to xp sp2, disabling aero).
maybe worth a try? -
Are you sure it will not run on Vista? Have you tried running the installer as Administrator and setting the program to run in XP compatibility mode?

Also, consider running XP in emulation "inside" of Vista. -
A lot of specialized equipment does not run in Vista. I am sure the original poster has already researched if it is possible to run in Vista, which is why they are asking about XP.
It's not a generic "I hate Vista lol so I don't want to even try it" topic. It's an "I know what my software requires to function, and it is XP. How can I get XP?"
Most of the posts in this topic are of no help at all. -
lol this forum's useless...
Try using the search box on this site... I'm sure the downgrading process has been covered before for that machine.
Also, you might want to consider a machine with XP pre-installed. Dell's Latitudes and some of their Vostro models have this (from the Dell Small Business store)... and also most or all of Lenovo's Thinkpads offer XP. That way you won't have to work out all the installation and driver issues. -
Hi Forum
I just came back in and seem a number of helpfuls have replied....
Thanks to all whom have tried to add advice.....although some of you....like my school teacher would say..."read all the instructions first... AND I pretty much agree with all whom have replied...just an unusual situation...
Just for Clarification...I DO need Win XP.....the Medical equipment Hardware is configured to and programmed to talk ONLY to XP....my wife Does have a Mac so some of you will have a smile with that as well... And Yes I do covet how virus free her laptop is... A newer replacement piece of equip is 24K and it Will talk to Vista....but I do not want to spend 24K to talk to a vista laptop.
I looked at the Dell XPS 1330 mainly because I have had Dell PC and laptops in the past with good results. I liked the XPS looks...also had stereo speakers, which I also need, or would like. Because.. when using the Medical equipment....I listen to noise ( actually and electrical signal) coming out of muscle tissue....it gets amplified,,,and stereo makes it easier to hear.
Most Medical things for many many years used only Toshiba....something about the grounding....but I think that was mosly Hype. Though Toshiba is good
I have a friend locally whom will sell me a Dell Lattitude D630, with all VISTA santitized away....and XP installed, with best LCD screen, 250 GB HD, 4 GB ram, some special sound card, and what I am told is the T-95 processor, lightly used, with 2 yers warranty.. Dell new price is close to 2 K, He will sell it for 1200.oo This sounds good, just more than I had wanted to spend, but this is a nice system. And I am considering this as a possiblity to eliminate my problem. I forgot to add it also has Blue tooth, N wirless built in....long duration hand rest battery, DVD player and DVD burner, and a few more top line things. Is the D630 a 2007 or 2008 machine. Thanks again,
UPDATE I just did some looking and the "deal" above is NOT that sweet....So I am still looking...perhaps at a 2007 version D630 but for much less money...but same specs..No need to point out a better deal here. but thanks again.
Keep posting and thanks for the help.
