Does anyone know a way to remove the ugly icon in the taskbar, which appears when one disables Automatic Updates. It comes from the Security Centre but unlike the firewall and the antivirus protection, I cannot hide this one.
    Ideas?
    Thanks

you can't "always hide" it from the taskbar properties?

    that's what i did.

did you try changing the settings?

security center-->change the way Security Center Alerts Me--> uncheck the automatic update and any others that you don't want to be notified.

That's the method I used recently. I couldn't "always hide" from the system tray as I had in a previous XP installation, and I was at a loss until one of my pals at my semi-local (too far away to be local, but worth the drive) computer shop showed me just this little tip that I'd somehow overlooked.
