it only shows around 3gb because you are using the 32bit version of vista. to recognise all of the ram, you need to use the 64bit version.

What jisaac said. Anyway, you wouldn't notice the difference. About the number of programs you have installed, IMHO you have a few useless ones, but what's more important than uninstalling programs is disabling unnecessary services and processes.

Check http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=166532 for how to disable services and generally optimise your lappy.

Technically, you're using 3.144GB of RAM, which is not a combination you could arrive at with unmatched sticks of RAM, the only other available combination being one 2GB stick plus one 1GB stick for a total of 3GB of physical RAM, which would still leave you short by 0.144GB.

Also, another thing to consider is the number of unnecessary peripherals you might have attached, such as USB devices. Each of those must be assigned a portion of the 4GB of logical addresses the computer has available to assign to all of the resources that it needs to be able to address, so getting rid of peripherals that aren't necessary for the functioning of the computer will free up logical addresses, which can then be assigned to additional bytes of physical RAM, permitting you to "see" more than your current 3.144GB.

On the subject of installed programs - there's no need to uninstall any programs to alleviate the workload on the computer because what matters is not how many you have installed (provided you still have sufficient disk space) but rather how many you have running. If you're computer's getting slow and you've been diligent about using A/V and spyware (and generally stay away from bad sites), then you may simply have too many programs running at the same time, which you can check on quickly by looking at the task manager to see how many processes you have going, and how much CPU time each is consuming.

No, it's not 3.144 gb... it's just 3 gb, listed in kilobytes.

    See here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=3+*+(1024^2)&btnG=Google+Search

(Technically he's showing slightly less than 3 gb.)

EDIT: This link is better: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=3+gigabytes+in+kilobytes&btnG=Search

True, except that some programs can run stuff in the background even when you're not actualy "using" them. For that reason, I recommend simply uninstalling any unused and unwanted programs.

After that, you can go into Windows Defender > Software Explorer > Startup programs > Show for all users, and disable some startup processes related to the programs that are still installed.

i followed ure advice to see this thread but after changing my services, when i restarted i couldnt connect to any network =.=".

Well i could but i had to manually press it and click start wireless service.

Below that option were others saying hardware issues and ITCP issues both didnt work so i just clicked start wireless service and then it worked (lol).

I dont feel good having to press that button everytime cuz it makes me think something went terribly wrong.

Also i tried "Safe" so why is this happening, i mean cmon starting up the wireless connection doesnt take much space. I still want to follow the "safe" optimization but i still want the wireless connection to automatically take place =.=".

    How do u do that?
