I think because you have the beta already installed it doesn't allow you to get the official. AFAIK.

That is a good assumption to make, because right now no one knows for sure. If you arm yourself with that assumption and make a plan based on it, then you are sure to be safe when the SP1 release actually happens.

You could make an image of your drive using any of several different tools designed for that, Ghost, Acronis, BootIT NG, etc will all do the task. If you do image the drive, you should also keep a list of all the things you do after installing the beta SP1. Things like software installs, software updates, driver updates etc. That way if you must go back to your image you know the other things you need to do to get your machine current again.

That is only a guess at this point. I don't know anyone on the official beta that we can ask. Microsoft will have set their expectations as to what to expect when the real release happens. They usually tell you upfront, if you will need to uninstall beta software and how to do so. (The operative word there being USUALLY.)

It's not working anymore? I ran the cmd (bat) file for the registry entries and never received KB935509 in Windows Update. I have waited overnight and still not KB935509.

    Any thoughts?

Try it again, but only if you really want it. It is a beta and it has many bugs.

Yes, SP1 will be free. My questions are first, when is the official release "supposed" to be? Second, can I order (even if I have to pay a few $) a disk to install Windows with the Service Pack already in place?

SP1 is scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2008. Retail versions should also have SP1 integrated shortly after the release of SP1.

You will also be able to take a current Vista disc and slipstream the SP into it. Then you can burn a new disc, you'll have it. No need to buy or order one.
