I am wanting to resize the windows taskbar to make it smaller and take a little less room up at the edge of the screen (for example, like it would appear smaller on a higher resolution). I am not sure how (or if) you can do this, maybe some way to change it from being say 50 pixels high to 40 or something.
If anyone can lend a hand that would be appreciated![]()

Doubt there is any way, unless you use Linux probrably..

I don't think there's a real way to change the height of the bar in that sense. You can make the bar taller (2x, 3x, etc...) or drop it down completely, but then you wouldn't be able to see anything on the taskbar.
There is an option though that will allow you to auto hide the bar. When you move your mouse to the bottom of the screen, it'll re-appear. Just right-click on the taskbar and select properties. You'll have an option to Auto Hide. Just check the box and click OK. The bar will now disappear and reappear when you want.
You may want to check for some 3rd party software that allows you to modify your Windows settings. Something like Windows Blinds and other similar products may do what you're looking for.

Yeah, I know about the resizing up... and hiding, was just hoping for one that allows me to adjust the height. If there is not I can manage with some themes that make the taskbar smaller instead of altering a default XP theme...

yeah, you would need to use some custom skin to do it
i made one in samurize by screencapping the taskbar, then reducing it in photoshop from 30 to 12 pixels and using it in samurize. eventually got rid of it. -
oh, one more thing, if you were able to resize it (which you can kinda do by resizing the "title bar" in the desktop properties), you would jack up all your icon settings in your quicklaunch bar and system tray.

You would have to use a custom theme, or some skinning app to do it. Look up the minimalist skins for visual styles. They have some tiny bars.
