    Hi, guys

A few months ago I reformatted by Dell Vostro 1500. It's running Vista Business. Since the reformat I'm getting a weird resolution error. My resolution is normally set to 1280x800. But when I open up the lid while it's in sleep mode and log in, the resolution visibly jumps to 1024x768. Sometimes it reverts back after a few seconds but usually I have to go into display settings and manually change it back. It gets really annoying.

Can anyone tell me what I can try in order to fix this? It hasn't happened until I reformatted.

just a guess: is there any app which would start after you wake up the laptop? i mean - i've seen a case when one user, hell knows why, has set the resolution for their antivirus tray icon to something weird (after playing with compatibility). as soon as the app started (and it was sitting in the systray, no need for a window), the resolution changed.

maybe the reason is totally different in your case, this is one of many possibilities...

I have experienced this problem if I close the lid of my laptop before actually exiting and closing out a video game. I think that you might have either a game or another video application running in the background that has not been completely closed out.

Edit: This was just a guess, but it happened to me.

    Thanks for your advice!

Boypogi, I downloaded new NVidia drivers along with a Windows Update last night, but the problem still occurs :(

Entropy, I haven't thought about that. I know I haven't manually played around with any resolution settings except for the ones to change the overall resolution to 1280x800.

TravisBean, I think this may be what's happening. I often close my laptop with Windows Media Player minimized and paused on a movie. I'll try closing it the next time I close the lid to put it to sleep and see if I still get the problem.
