    Hi All,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 running vista with a Geforce 8600m GT. As of last night everytime i boot up windows - it starts at my native 1920X1200 resolution for the login screen - but within 10-15 seconds of windows starting it clicks to the absolute lowest setting - the icons are HUUUGGE! Does anyone have any idea what might have happened to change this? The only thing i can think i have done different was install the F.E.A.R. demo.

    Thank in advance!
    -Sean

That might have been it. Check your msconfig startup. There's likely a program loading that "fixes" your resolution at boot.

See, that's what i thought. I completely uninstalled it, still the same problem - and my msconfig SEEMS to be the same as always.

    Any other ideas?

Have you tried reinstalling your graphics driver? If so, I'd definitely echo NinjaNoodles and vote for a system restore.

I only say that because I've searched the internet for your problem, and I've found a few similar cases. Unfortunately, they are all from unresolved threads in forums like this one.

Smotta, did you ever get this fixed? If not, there are a few things I would recommend.

    1) If you have it installed, check the video settings on the Dell QuickSet utility.

    2) In Device Manager, remove the video adapter entry and have it redetect the card (it should automatically reinstall the video driver).

    3) Reinstall/upgrade the video driver from the Dell support site to see if that fixes the problem.

    4) While Dell does not provide support for it (since we haven't tested it yet to ensure no new problems) you could try the latest driver from http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp if the Dell tested version does not help.

If you have other questions about this, or none of these fix the problem, let me know and I'll see what else we can try.
