Can you restore an individual program with restore points? Do you have to restore the entire system? I have one program that 's gone haywire and I was wondering if this was possible?

Just reinstall that program. If you have saved work, do back them up

What is the program and what is the problem?

The program is Mobipocket. I've worked with the developer to delete and reinstall, delete various files, and attempted to download an older version - all this and it still doesn't work plus it locks up my Palm Hotsync. I was looking at a Sunrise document set that I made and Hotsynced successfully and it occured to me that both Palm and Hotsync were working just fine when I made that set. So I was debating a rollback but I didn't want to loose my new programs and settings with a system restore if at all possible.

System restore only restores Windows system files. It does not usually restore or overwrite any program files or data files.

From This MS Tech Article on System Restore.

If you are using Vista, there are issues with Palm and Vista. Palm's website has a section on Vista and compatibility.

Depending on which Palm device you're using, a hard reset might be required. Not all Palm devices have that option, though. Also, if you don't do it right, you can restore the crap you just tried to remove when you sync the device.

Really? I recently restored my computer (xp) after a new install of lavasoft's adaware wouldn't work. This new program had automatically uninstalled my previous version of adaware. After the restore I had the old adaware again. And all the files I had deleted off my desktop after the new install were restored.

Yeah, that's why I said "usually". I've had things restored, too, that I didn't expect. Then other times, when I'd like a program or part of a program restored, it doesn't do it. Even when there are restore points that would have backed up the good info.

That link in my first post has more info and may explain it better. Or maybe it's just another "mystery of Microsoft". :)

I know from much troubleshooting and time at the Mobipocket website forum that the problem comes from the program's update and that other Palm users are having the same problem. So a hard reset won't solve the problem, I've got to get this program off the lappy or find a way to restore the previous version in its entiretly - including those subfolders and instructions - which is where the problem resides until the developer is able to correct the glitch.

So can restore points do that for me?

I'll back up my new software and data. After all of this drama I'd be a fool not to :D But I'd rather not go through this if I can't achieve the goal - no Mobipocket Desktop 6  For that I can just stay were I am and wait for an update to be issued.

I would just try it. You can unrestore it you know. That is, after doing a windows restore, it gives you the option to undo it. Back up the important stuff first of course.
