Got no help in the asus forums so was hoping there might be someone on windows who knows about the operating systems.
I have an image of win7 for my notebook on an external HDD, can I restore that image via win8 (which is currently on the lappy) ?
-
From win 8?, no...
-
What format is the image in? Is it an ISO of the WIn 7 disk or an image of the restore partition for your notebook?
-
It would help to know the make and exact model of the computer and the program that was used to create the win 7 image. BTW good idea to dump Win 8!
-
it just says WindowsImageBackup
Im not sure what i created it with, I thought windows 7. i used an iso i once have, which i dont anymore on disc, to build the win7 on an asus ul30vt because the install discs and restore discs would not accept my 60GB hdd, ie asus spat the dummy having a smaller hard drive than the original. so i had to install win7 then i created an image.
i dont want to redownload an iso to install again, i just want to use the current image i have on external hdd. -
Since it is create by Windows, you will need an installed Windows OS to restore the image. The simplest I could think of is to reinstall Windows 7 plain (without anything else) and then run Backup & Restore and point it towards the image file to restore the system completely.
Restore win7 imange via win8?
