So, I just opened up firefox and noticed all my bookmarks are suddenly gone for no reason, including the bookmarks toolbar.

Everything else is there, history, saved passwords, cookies, etc. I see no reason for them to disappear like that.

I restarted firefox but it didn't help. Is there any place they might be stored on my computer still so I can get them back?
I have a lot of bookmarks that I use constantly, it really sucks to have to start all over again.

I think there's a bookmarks older in your Firefox folder. I use Foxmarks add on which automatically backs to up online. And Mozbackup to my hard drive.

Check to see which profile Firefox is loading. It may have created a new one for whatever reason and your old one is still intact.

I looked through the Mozilla FireFox folder but I can't find it. Can you give me a specific location or something?

I don't know anything about profiles...

    Thanks.

    It should be here

C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox and look at the profiles folder to see if there is just one addition folder or more.

    Okay there's just one profile.
It has a Bookmarks Firefox document (which is empty, it only has the one bookmark I just added a minute ago) then there's a bookmarks.bak and a bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak folder, both of which just go to the "Windows cannot open this file" because it doesn't know what to do with it, etc. etc..

Delete or rename the current bookmarks.html and rename the bookmarks.html.sdsd.bak to just .html.

The only thing that changed is now it opens my one new bookmark in some goofy side window, as if it were the history pane.

Try the other .bak file (bookmarks.bak) too, rename it to bookmarks.html and see if there is any difference from the other .bak file. Both of these should be a backup or the previous update of your bookmarks.html file.

What version of Firefox is this? The storage of bookmarks changed completely in V3, so what you need to do to recover from lost bookmarks has changed. Have a read of http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks for how to recover them in most versions of Firefox.

    Worked perfectly. THANK YOU.

The only thing it didn't do was restore the bookmarks toolbar folder. But I only have like 3 there anyway so that's no big deal.

    Thanks again.
