    Reverse Quick Format - HELP!

    I quick formatted my 500GB external instead of a USB key by accident. Is there any way to reverse this? The drive was almost full and I lost alot of important stuff... :(

    Try Recuva. It is freeware

    I did the exact same thing once. Since you did a quick format, it just deleted the file structure, the data is still there. I used Easus Data Recovery Wizard, it'll scan through and recover your partition and you can select which files or partition/s you want restored. Works great. It's not free. But... the interweb is your friend.

    Thanks guys, I'm trying Recuva now, it looks like about 6 hours to finish. Hopefully it works and that's all I have to do.

    For future reference, Testdisk is a quick and easy solution. Instead of just recovering files it recovers the old partition table. After that, the disk and files will be exactly as they were prior to deletion (assuming everything is recoverable).
