This is a very little thing, but I'm very curious. I use Internet Explorer (yes, I am sure that there are better browsers out there, but...)
Several of my bookmarks, when I originally saved them, had their own little icons next to the name in the pull down list - eBay, ESPN, Netflix... I liked it, because it made a quick ID on the list much easier. However, all of them, several days after adding them to Favorites, lost their little logos and are just listed with the IE icon next to them. This is spread out over several months, but they all did it. I can't find a way to get them back.
Does anyone know why this happens, and if there's something I'm missing in options to get them back?
Again, stupid thing, but I like things to make sense!![]()

It always used to happen with me, even before IE6. I never bothered to understand why cause it's probably one of those stupid microsoft things.
Try to bookmark again, do you get the icons?
Firefox never messes up the icons! Hey one more reason to switch to firefox -
Yeah, I'm thinking it may be time to make the switch.

firefox messes up my bookmark icons (posted a question about this a long time ago here). i just ignore it now. if i delete the bookmark and add it again, its ok for a couple days. it seems to be the same few bookmarks so maybe that has something to do with it.
but FF is much better than IE in terms of security and functionality so it's still worth the download. -
Firefox just loses its history randomly with me. Has been doing it since day one, but other than that - it's fine.

A thing about Firefox that makes me so angry that I want to switch to something else (even though I would lose many of the features that keep me with it), is the start up issue. This is where you double click the icon, and FF never starts up. Actually it does, but it does not show. So I then need to go to the task manager and end the program. Sometimes it will do this many times in a row. It's very annoying.

Well, I downloaded Firefox, and the thing that makes me not want to use it is that my touchpad has a scroll bar along the side, and FF didn't seem to work with it. I am typing this message using Opera, and it seems to work better. So far, my icons are in place, too.
Anyone else have this problem in Firefox? Is there a fix? -

I have the same problem - the scroll pad on my touchpad doesn't work with FireFox.
I believe there was a driver update put out by Synaptics not too long ago that fixes the issue, so if you have a Synaptics touchpad, you should check for the latest drivers.
My touchpad is made by Elantech, I'm going to check their website to see if they have any updated drivers. -
The icons are .ico files saved into the Temporary Internet Folder for your profile.
After a while they are deleted. To make them permanent do the follwoing steps:
1. make a copy of the .ico file in a folder of your choice (I usually also rename it for personal clarity)
2. right click on the link to which you want to associate the icon
3. from the menue, choose properties
4. click on the change icon button
5. browse until you find the copy of the .ico file you created in step 1
6. click OK as many times as needed
I like to have those icons too and this (albeit cumbersome) is the best way that I have learnt so far -
I never had scrolling problems or no start / crash up on start issues.
I have only managed to crash FF a couple of times, and that was due to the page being opened, because the same will crash it over and over again, I am guessing something to do with the page's code.
Ridiculous question about IE
