I hear a ringing sound on my HP envy and thinkapd yoga computers sometimes.

If I had to describe the ringing sound, it sounds like it is coming from a program on my computer. If you can imagine the sound that a program makes when it finishes updating something, or downloading something, it is that kind of sound.

How do I determine if the sound is from the computer or a program? Has anyone else experienced this?

It is more of a "ding! finished!" kind of sound than a ring sound no words of course that ding finished was just describe what kind of ring sound it was

My best guess would be that the sound is google drive or onedrive or something telling me that is updated/synced but I can't figure out if that is the case or how I would stop the sound.

The hp envy laptop just has the sound every few minutes.

The thinkpad yoga when it has the sound will have it multiple times in succession.

Did you check to see if it was a notification from an app. Say the mail or calendar apps.

What would be some things I would look for?

Here is the event viewer in a video of me looking at the summary of administrative events. I am not sure what to look for as "ding completed!" is not one of the listed items. This is for the thinkpad yoga.

I didn't download any calendar apps. I use google calendar. What are some programs you would check?

Here are all my programs from the start menu:

The problem is even if it is a program on my computer, I don't know how to search my computer for a sound. I look on my start menu and I don't see any blinking lights or anything so I don't see an obvious notification.

Let's say my hypothesis is that dropbox is causing the sound or google drive is causing the sound or windows 8.1 is causing the sound. What are some things you could do to test?

Do you guys ever get these kind of "ding! completed!" kind of ringing sounds? Because I've experienced this on two computers I feel that it must either have to do with windows 8 or a program I've installed on them. By the way here are the programs that I have installed.

Click on the speaker icon in the bottom right (taskbar) - open the mixer, which shows which programs are making sound.

    Check your Sound Notification.

Then, if using Windows 8.1, check the App Notifications.
