Windows 7 is my primary OS, and only OS at that. I haven't had any real problems. Though all of my data is backed up onto an external hard drive. I like using new OS's and trying them out as a primary OS, I did the same thing with Windows Longhorn (Prior to being called "Vista")
-
I primarily use Windows 7. I have backed up all my data and have a sector by sector copy of my hdd with vista on it and can revert to that if i need to in a pinch. Windows 7 runs better even though it is Beta than Vista did on my AA 5315 laptop. Only a few small things that dont work but they did not work with vista very well either so not a big issue. On being the Mobile Device Center using bluetooth. Cannot get it to work with vista or windows 7 so clearly a program issue.
Over all quite impressed with Windows 7. -
It will be when RC's officially released
-
I formatted my Vista partition within days of the public beta's release.
-
-
Been on the beta since it was released, although I still switch back and forth between 7 and ubuntu (for school only)
-
I am currently downloading from the TechNet site and I am really excited to have it.
-
Will the Windows 7 RC allow an upgrade from Vista SP1 (x64)?

Does anyone know if you'll be able to upgrade the RC to the retail build when it launches? If so I'll just get rid of Vista altogether and install the RC over my vista install when it releases (unless i shouldn't?)

Just my opinion of course. -
Is the x3100 the only graphics controller? If so, does it give you native resolution?
I have a 3 yr old Inspiron 710M, and W7 RC only uses the std VGA driver at 1084 x 768, not the native 1280 x 800. I'm considering replacing it with a Dell Vostro 1310 with the x3100 controller, but would like to hear whether it will run W7 at native resolution, etc. Tried Dell chat, but just got careful answers there - like - wait till release!
I've been using W7 since initial beta release (beta tester) on my desktop, and am happy with it.
Thanks, lionelm -
lionelm, I assume you have already attempted downloaded and running the Dell drivers in Vista compatibility mode?
-
just tried win7... wow, I won't pay to upgrade from Vista. seriously. they said the move from XP to vista was just an interface change... vista to 7 isn't even that. with no real significant changes to the OS itself... wow, I'm amazed. I'll make my final decision on wether or not I'll buy the OS when its released tho.
However it's good to see many people liking it. I'll be able to buy vista Licences for cheap -
Thanks, czhang. Yes I've tried that - W7RC loads that driver but locks it out.
Dell do not have drivers for Vista for this lappy - only XP.
Are you running W7 on your laptop with x4500 gfx? if so, does it give you native resolution? -
-
There are lots of little things I've noticed with Win7 that I like better than Vista (disk defrag, sticky notes, rearranging programs on taskbar, easier to turn off UAC), and so far no drawbacks. I haven't noticed any big changes, however. For my use anyway
-
I used Vista for a long time, just after it was released (a week I think) and really like the OS.
But for me Windows 7 allows me to do more without tweaking. I know exactly which services not to run, registry entries to modifiy, and other tweaks to run on Vista. But for Windows 7 I am not having to tweak it to get good performance.
Okay one good way to see this in action is to load up Win 7 and all the programs I use. Normally I have to go in and optimize Vista so that it would have less then 60 processes running at any one time. Windows 7 had 57 right off the bat without any opimization. To me this OS feels and acts much more efficient.
Of course this is all just my opinion. But I am definately purchasing Windows 7 when it is offically released. -
I really like 7 RC (32bit) so far. For what I do and the way I use my PC, it's a definite step up from Vista and a huge step forward from XP.
It's all the little things that got me. Like the new Paint, especially with the import from scanner feature which worked flawlessly without any extra software with my Canon MFD. Arranging windows around the desktop is awesome; really like the drag two windows (one to each side of the screen) to snap evenly for comparisons and references, just awesome! Jump lists, the new taskbar, notification tray, performance, stability...the list goes on and on. I'd buy this right now if MSFT released it today, and I'm no MSFT fan by any stretch. -
Windows 7 RC + Ubuntu here.
-
I use it as my primary OS and do work for actual paying jobs in Creative Suite 4 because Windows 7 will never crash on me and lose hours of footage like Mac OSX and Final Cut Studio would.
-
Windows XP SP3 + Windows 7 here.
Though, I'm sure once I FINALLY get my Latitude XT2 from Dell it will slowly but surely replace Vista. -
I got pretty bored with Windows 7 but I still dual boot the RC with Vista 64-bit.

It's not going to be my primary OS until it goes retail, until then it will just be a test OS, but not my main OS.
-
Mac OS X is my primary OS, just tinkering around with W7. It will never be my primary OS.

Just curious. I've been dual booting Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64 Beta since January, and am currently downloading the Windows 7 x64 RC.
Kinda want to just image my Vista partition and clean install W7 and Linux. Only problem I had with the Beta was my microphone didn't work but I think I just need to hunt down the driver.
Anyway it seemed stable and was wondering if anyone was using it as their main OS. -
using it as main OS here. Windows 7 FTW
-
I am on 3 different computers, one of them is my work computer. I've had zero problems with Win 7, but I do of course maintain a rock solid backup, so if something should happen I am okay. Thus far it has taken everything I've thrown at it from software to hardware!
-
using as main os here too, even if we don't replace it we have till march 2010 to play with it.
-
Dual booting both my desktop and laptop with vista and win7. desktop main os=vista 64 bit. laptop main os=win 7 32 bit

Using 7 RC 32bit on two production desktops at home as the only OS. As much as liked Vista and had very few issues with it, the few issues that I had (mostly power management and driver related) are, surprisingly, all completely fixed with 7. For me, Vista is officially a thing of the past.
-
I supported Win7 even more after the complete failure of SP2 IMHO

oh yeah, a complete failure. it's terrible... thanks for helping me *runs away and kicks all it's vista systems out the house*
nice weekend to you.

three different computers and havent skipped a beat
-
Use it as my main OS now. It kills everything I ever used. Great design, functionalities, and lightweight.
-
I've been using Win7 as my main OS since late December. -
Main OS here. Windows 7 FTW!
-
Win7 has a conflict with my Bluetooth module
So I don't use it... -
There are alot of brave people here. There is no way I am using a pre-release version of a OS as my main OS. Yeah I know it is stable and all, I myself had no problems when I tested it (dual booted it with vista) a few weeks back however I will use vista until Microsoft officially releases win 7.
Remember there is a reason why Microsoft warns you not to use the RC as your main OS or on a production critical computer. At anytime they can decide to test something which could cause some unwanted side effects for you. -
Been using it as a main OS for a long time too.

Main OS since January or so.
