    Hey,

I was just wondering if having integrated graphics has an effect on running Vista?

I'm looking for a new Dell XPS soon but tempted to get either the 13" with Integrated Intel graphics, or the 15" with an 8600M GT as they both work out around roughly the right price for me.

I don't game on PC's. Programming, Website Design, Photoshop tasks are about all that I do. But will dedicated graphics speed up Vista at all or does it not make a difference to the OS itself?

P.S Assume that I mean with Aero interface turned ON.

    Cheers guys.

Just ran Vista upgrade advisor and aparently even the ATi Xpress 200M in my current laptop would run it. So the Intel X1300 should be fine.

Would it run better with a dedicated gpu instead of integrated?

If the only thing you're doing is running Aero, the x3100 will work just as well as a dedicated chip. It isn't that intensive. I would concentrate on getting enough RAM and processor power for Photoshop and programming tasks.

I don't think photoshop utilizes the video card in any way at the moment. But did hear a rumour the next version will....

I like my work computer because it has 4GB of RAM and a C2D Quad Q6600 (2.4ghz), perfect for photoshop. Although I won't be able to get a laptop with a Q6600! 4GB I will get though.
