    Hey everyone,
Recently i tried turning on my Asus Eeenetbook when I got the message as follows:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or softwarechange might have caused this.If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows

    Normally.

    SafeMode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) Start Windows Normally

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

    Seconds until Windows starts: 30"

I tried all those options but everytime a blue screen pops up for a split second that's too quick to read. Then the whole cycle restarts again.

all the solutions ive read require the windows boot disk, but it doesnt have a cd drive and i dont have an external one. Is there any way i can save my notes from this? i had million pages of notes and the test is next week, its the end of the line for me here

you could run ubuntu from a flash drive and then connect to a network and copy your stuff over

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick

That would be the quickest route.

Then, you can use the asus system restore to reinstall windows from the hidden system partition, and then copy the files back.

p.s.--you do that by fast tapping the f9 key until you get the asus system restore menu, and choose restore to factory settings.

This would be the only way, if, however, it somehow decides to let you in, get your stuff off asap, and run System Restore, Though, running Ubuntu from a Flash Drive and copying all your files to something seems like the only way.

Well, there are other ways...just nothing he can do with the resources he has.

If I had the computer with me, I'd drop the drive in a second machine as a slave and backup the data, then run chkdsk on it and see if that fixed it up.his best bu

If that failed, and this is XP, I'd grab a restore point from system volume information and rebuild his registry from there.

But, given his lack of resources, a ubuntu flash is his best, easiest bet.
