I know that you have to switch from AHCI to Compatibility in order to install XP, but does that mean that I have to keep it in Compatibility mode in order to boot XP?

no, you should be able to switch over once you install your chipset drivers.

    you´ve got two options :

    1.
you install xp without sata features.
install the chipset drivers for it. restart, and enable the sata features in bios again before booting to xp and hope this procedure is working.

    2.
slipstream the needed sata driver to your windows xp cd. nlite is a nice and free software for adding drivers and modifiying your windows installation.
if you search the board for nlite you will find some complete guides on how to do this.
