Hey all,
My computer won't show SP1 in Windows Update, so I went to the MSKB and searched through all my drivers to find out which one was conflicting with the update.
The culprit was tcusb.sys, or the "TouchChip USB Kernel Driver." It's for a fingerprint scanner.
But my computer doesn't have a fingerprint scanner.
That said, the file was last accessed before my computer was sent to me (I assume when it was created). Is it safe to delete? I tried renaming it, but SP1 still failed to show its pretty little face in Windows Update. It turns out that other users (without fingerprint scanners) have reported the same issue, but manually updating the driver doesn't help either.
I searched the device manager to see if anything was using it - or if I could simply uninstall it - but no luck there either.
Lastly, I've already downloaded the SP1 stand-alone installer, so that option is available as well.
Solutions? Thoughts?
Thanks,
Peter

You try cut and paste it somewhere else and even renaming it so Windows doesnt recognize it.
If that doesnt work then just use the standalone. It shouldnt give you any problems.
I had a problematic conexant driver and i still installed SP1 through standalone. Everythings been perfect -
I renamed it again, but this time I restarted (no idea why I didn't the first time). Anyway, SP1 is downloading now.

I advise you to be patient and just wait for your computer to update to SP1 on its own. I wish I would have.

Thanks for the tip, Sel, but it installed fine (with the exception of poor audio). I reinstalled my sound driver and things are great.

Glad it installed fine. It should have anyway, considering most of the problems with SP1 have been driver related, and the only problematic driver you had is for a piece of hardware you don't have. Weird, but hey, at least its working now.
