I recieved Thinkpad R61 that came with Vista home premium SP1 pre-installed.
However, I did a clean-install (follow instruction in lenovo forum) and it works well.
the only problem is that I use the old Vista disk that did not come with SP1 during clean installation, and I expect that SP1 will automatically show up in window update, but it won't!
any recommendation how to get SP1 via automatic update? should I download the file myself from microsoft?
when I did a clean-install, I already downloaded all update driver from lenovo website and Intel (for 965 chipset), so it shouldn't be a driver problem.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

My FZ was the same. SP1 was on my recovery partition and I reinstalled it from there. You can certainly dl it directly from MSFT. If ithe R61 came with SP1, then you should have all the right drivers.

Hi.
It can take a couple of days to show up, I think a few small updates are required before you get the big sp1 download.

Go back to MS web site and download it again.

Yep,get it manually if all else fails.
that's how I got it also.
But right after a fresh install of Vista...which I recommend. -
i know sp1 doesnt show up if you have some bad drivers installed check to see if you have any of these. found them searching google. you may have just installed a wrong driver when redoing windows, that you didn't have when you 1st got your laptop from the factory.
Products with problem drivers include:
* - Realtek AC'97 audio
* - SigmaTel audio
* - Creative Labs Audigy audio
* - Conexant HD Audio
* - Authentec and UPEK fingerprint sensors
* - Intel integrated graphics
* - TI Smart Card Controller
* - Sierra Wireless AirCard 580
* - Symantec Endpoint Protection and Network Access Control clients
if you go here and scroll down to "method for cause 5" it will give you the exact drivers versions that don't work http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343#method5 -
If you downloaded the latest drivers from the lenovo site, then the only possible driver conflict could be with the fingerprint reader. If you don't have the fingerprint reader then you shouldn't have a driver problem. If you do have the fingerprint reader then you need to download the driver from the UPEK website.
If that's not the problem then you should give it a day or two. I recently clean installed two t61's. On one of them it took over 24 hours for SP1 to show up. On the other it showed up immediately after DL all prior updates. -
Hey Guys!!
Finally I figure out why SP1 didn't show up.
I have to install "Thinkpad screen 1440 x 900" driver, which shown as optional window update first.
After I installed all optional updates, SP1 now show in update window.
Thanks you all -
SP1 does not show up after vista clean install
