hey guys, i've recently put together a computer for my uncle. I know the hardware is good, and such. Initially i had a problem booting from the CD, but i realized i needed to slipstream sp2 into my original copy of windows. After that, it could recognize the pci. file for the video adapter. Anyhow...this is what happened
My product key seems to be invalid from the slipstream process. I tried entering the key on the box from the original cd, and i tried looking for a key from the SP2 folder created while doing the slipstream...heck, i even tried the key from my laptop(on right now) vista key. But i just can't figure out what happened. Anyway i can figure out the code? Or if it changed during slipstream process?
Is there a way i can put in the slipstream to bypass the pci. error, and then put in my regular copy to install?
I'm really getting sick of this product key error, and am about to break down, and buy the most up to date xp pro i can get...just to aviod this nightmare, lol.
thanks.

Did you use nlite to slipstream the service pack and drivers?

Slipstreaming shouldn't invalidate the product key... Unless of course it's an illegal key to begin with.
SP2 blocks quite a few (illegal) keys that were widely used in SP1 and before. So if you have a pirated key that worked before, it might not work with SP2.
In that case, buy a legal copy.
If that's not the case, you could always call Microsoft. It wouldn't surprise me if they accidentally blocked some legit keys at some point. -

yea, i figured it out. See, it wasn't my copy of windows, it was my uncle's copy that he said he had. So i just assumed he bought it. A few quick googles and i soon realized that it had the same exact key that the very first pirated xp cd did, starting with fckxx...but i got a real version to do it now
