hey guys,
regarding the computer in my signature which has two hdd bays,
could i get a small ssd drive (either a 32 or 64gb) and
put windows 7 on that small drive?
then still get those amazing boot times that ppl get with windows 7 and
a ssd?
and store everything else on my 7200 rpm 500gb drive?
would that work?
so in essense, boot windows 7 from my small ssd and use my computer as
normal from my massive 500gb drive?
thanks for help

if you can put in two hdds in some way, sure yes, you can.
two ways:
if you have two hdd bays, it's dead simple.
if you don't have two hdd bays, you could make the bluray drive hotswapping with the 500gb hdd.
third way (my way): store everything on your own network (in my case, a windows home server), and just have the os, apps, and some on-the-go used local files on the ssd itself. -
i do have two harddrive bays.
so i could technically just put windows 7 on the ssd and keep my current hdd and run it as normal with all my data etc?
and still have like 7 sec boot up times -
Yes, you can easily put W7 on the SSD and other data on the HDD. If you have two hard drive bays (and the money), then go for it
Are you going to put the RC on the SSD or wait for the final release? -
i have the final release ordered already,
i should probably just wait for the final unless
i can just upgrade it later with a key -
Yea, waiting for the final release is a good idea. Is the upgrade version?
-
yah just the upgrade for $50
-
If you're going to do an upgrade (ie in-place upgrade), you'll need to make sure Vista is installed on your SSD first.
-
so i guess i need to use my install disc that came with my computer and do a clean install of Vista on the new ssd drive when i get one then?
-
Yes, that should work. If not, then you can follow these steps to clone your existing Vista installation to your new SSD.
