I had 15gb free of 232gb not long ago. Previously it was 25gb and then 30gb and then 40gb free previously of 232gb total. Now I took a look at my c drive and suddenly its 25gb free?

What I do know is the last few windows 10 updates I did, it made the computer have less space. But now suddenly after no updates I did recently, it goes back to 25gb free when i haven't did anything? I noticed this happened quite frequently. A while back i had like 46gb free of 232gb. Then it went to 40gb then 25gb... then it suddenly went back up to 35gb free etc.

Can someone explain why windows does this?

@Drew1 you can clean old Windows update data manually:

Disk Cleanup -> Clean Up System Files -> tick Windows Update and anything else you want to clean -> OK

That's sounds more like a failing SSD sounds odd but SSD do fail just like HDD but once it fails it's dead SSD no recovery options.
