Hi Friends,
I downloaded the new safari beta for windows.
its very good.
Yes its definately beats firefox in terms of speed.
But still missed out on add-ons provided by firefox.
Very good looking browser, feels good to use.
So wanted to know wat do other people think of it.....![]()

Safari is at least two or three steps behind Fire Fox.
-
This'll be nice for web developers who won't have to get a mac just to test on Safari.
If it doesn't run a bunch of background processes when I'm not even using it the way iTunes does, I might even install it myself. -
I agree it has some cons to it.
but the best thing as mentioned in above post, web developers do not need to buy a mac to test whether the site works on safari.
Its speedy, but surely it need ground to cover for firefox.
It does not have add-ons which make life much more easier in firefox.
Also i could not import the bookmarks in safari which i exported via firefox.
stange, maybe i made some mistake.
For me speed matters the most.
So its definately... good for me. -
It's beta so hopefully they add import bookmarks later on.
Does anybody know what Bonjour is under bookmarks? -
Boo!
How's the page rendering for people? -
Opera is really good for speed too. Some sites don't look quite perfectly formatted on it, though.

EDIT
He claimed 2x faster than IE7. He claimed 1.6x faster than FF
I am a believer. Definitely faster than FF. Tried youtube, a video site, news pages, several forums, emails. Wow! My only quibble is I don't *know it* yet. For example whilst its good cookies are *allowed for sites you visit but not the advertisers*, javascript is enabled, but on FF I use no-script
As you can see though, those are minor quibbles. The main thing is that Safari is not quite rendering pages correctly, though I do not know if I have to change a setting
__________
EDIT EDIT:
Safari is not any faster than Fire Fox. -
I hope so , also the thing is the back feature in the toolbar offered by firefox.
It they can add that aswell, this surely will kill firefox to some extent.
I know all of you will agree IE should not even be mentioned. -
I was asking about NBR through Safari
Look at the pic again
-
It shouldn't? IE7 is fine for features... it's a little slow though.
-
Firefox is absolute best.....except it lacks ActiveX. I like Safari just fine on my Mac. But I do have to use IE7 at work for security reasons.
-
Cool. I'll have to d/l and try Safari. I doubt it will replace Firefox for me, tho (just too used to it and spoiled by the add-ons).
IE has it's place. There are some websites that just don't work well in FF or Opera (and I assume Safari). Especially older sites that have good info, but do not get updated. -
I dont knw if anyone has tried the firefox 3 beta.
i have it with me, its quick as safari is, but definately there are certain sites where safari loads faster.the difference might be a negligible 1sec.
Wat i am doing is all the safe sites which i knw, i open through safari.
and any anonymous site i open through FF, as safari does not gimme me option like no-script does. -
I donnu if u check out the font smoothing option under
Edit-->Preference-->Appearance -
Ah well, the font and appearance is default on both and I have it set on default skin atm for FF. I did see the appearance settings on Safari (thanks for mentioning it anyway. Font smoothing doesn't do much besides make font "bolder", rather than "smooth" if you get me

Has anyone tried, watching the leopard tour on the apple site.
I used firefox and it will show you a progress bar which is visible to tell you whether the video clip has been buffered.
But when i check it out on safari, its just plaing white.
I am not sure if its the browser or the apple quick time plugin. -
It plays just fine on Safari and FF2 for me. Instantly.
-
Sorry i made a mistake, when using safari, i can watch the video but the thing is,the progress bar is all white.
in firefox u will see a black progress bar as and when the clip is buffered. -
It has cleaner type than Safar -
Hmmm, i just found out, safari automatically copies your bookmark form other browsers on the system.
But they dont appear in the drop down menu as it did in FF.
you have to copy the folder under bookmark bar.
I liked the FF in this aspect.
Also u cannot use the scoll on ur mouse to move up and down, if th list is very long.
Bookmarks:
FF:-Thumps Up..
Safari:-Totaly let down -
FF on the left
Safari is fastest for me... but I can't use it atm. They need to fix the page rendering most importantly. Then I will need to read about security - for starters I want to know where cookies are stored! -
Going to try it when they release a more mature version of it. Meanwhile i'm sticking with IE7.
-
I tried out Safari for Windows yesterday. It could potentially take me away from FF, if/when they get decent add ons. Clearer, sharper pages; faster browsing; easy to understand/use security. Main complaint - no way to disable flash that I've found. But overall it's a decent looking, fast, and easy to configure browser.
But exploits have already been found for it. Six according to This ZDNet Blog Entry (see the update near the end). So, that takes away some of the thunder. -
Safari was on and then off my computer in a flash. The blurriness of the fonts in Safari really bothers me - I'd give it more of a try if Apple didn't use their own font rendering.
-
According to Betanews.com, Safari had kind of a bad day. make of it whatever you will.

I need some help
I downloaded Safari, and for some reason it's alot slower that my IE. Is there something im missing? Are there any settings i should change? My laptop should be able to handle this easily.........I don't know why it takes so long to open pages.
Thanks a bunch! -
Here's an explanation of the font-rendering differences:
http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2007/06/12.html?hi=joel
Basically, Microsoft's font rendering is optimized for readability, where Apple's is optimized for preserving typeface characteristics, according to this author. -
-
Again, it is just a beta version, it cannot be expected to be transparent on ALL machines. It does however have good potential as another option for windows users.
cheers ... -
there is available update to 3.0.1 version
Just run Apple Software UpdateAttached Files:
-
-
done that - yahoo main page still not shows up correctly (i use this as my measurement of safari
)
cheers ... -
It is fast no doubt, but certain problems with streaming windows media ...and of course it lacks the kind of plugins FF has
-
Why did Apple announce a Windows version of Safari?
May be just me but all I read from that piece was "for a slice of the G o o g l e pie". Correct me if I am wrong -
Going the route of preserving the algorithms of the typeface of type body thats just meant for simple reading (ie: forums) makes the whole experience of reading a muddy mess. -
I read an article last year that stated that more than 65% of all ipod owners own no other Apple products other than the ipod itself.
Its these same people who will most likely flock to the iphone. Now if the iphone is to include its Safari browser how else is Apple gonna get people comfortable with it but to do what they did by releasing a pc platform version.
Familiarity is the only way Apple is gonna attract ipod owners to where they really want more marketshare which is to the mac computer.
I cant see it really happening considering a lot of mac owners themselves dont use the Safari browser either.
This day and age personal customization is key to grasping and holding on to the consumers browser use. Firefox knew this at the beginning and its open browser allows so much customization and skinning mods its almost impossible to count them all. Even Microsoft caught on with its IE7 with its own add-ons and plugins. -
I'm really temped to try this...but I'll wait until the beta is over...
-
I'd use it on my Windows box as my Opera-sidekick (replacing Firefox), if they'd make it more native: I want to click the taskbar to minimize it, middle click to create a scrolly thing, and have my back and forward buttons on my mouse work.
-
Firefox + iFox Theme > Safari
in my opinion... functionality of Firefox and the Apple look for those Apple fanatics...
Matt -
Well, it passes the Acid2 test better than IE7, so it's replacing it. I'm very happy using Safari until Konqueror is released for Windows.
-
Many security flaws has already been found in Safari and I'm sure many more will be found. Although it's still new in beta and such, it's been about a week already and Apple already released version 3.0.1.
-
-
-
So...if my Logitech mouse buttons don't work with Safari - is that a fault of safari or setpoint?
-
Matt -
I'm still waiting for Apple to come out with an iTunes that doesn't hog a machines resources...once they do that then maybe I would consider switching to Safari.
-
They have one ...it's called iTunes for OSX
It's incredibly fast to load too. I opened the program, and the thing was already on my screen fully loaded before my finger even bounced off the touchpad button.
Ah well
Safari on Windows... (IE-killer)
