I have no reason to continue using Internet Explorer 9. I can disable it with the native windows feature for disabling certain functions. Can I safely remove it? I get a warning saying that some programs may not function properly.
I know Comodo updates with IE. Will it interfere with that?

If you remove it, it should automatically default back to IE8.
-
It removed Internet Explorer. "Turn Windows features on or off."
Seems to be working. -
The first thing I do after a format is:
Uninstall:
- IE 8
- Media Centre
- DVD Maker
- Tablet PC Components
- Hide IE9 from Windows updates
If any program wants to update it will use the default browser in your OS not specifically IE 8 bro.
And the warning you get from control panel when you are trying to uninstall is merely a standard warning for removing any app that is built into Windows. -
Yeah, been doing fine without it.
-
I personally would never uninstall it however that is your business.
My reasons:
You should always have a backup to fall upon in case something fatal happens to your primary browser weather it be Firefox, chrome, or opera. Perhaps your web browser just constantly crashes and you can't get a web page to load or your infected with a nasty rogue and keep getting redirected.
I would recommend you install a backup browser now. -
I can always reenable it without an internet connection in case of Chrome completely breaking =p I just recheck a little box and restart.
-
Backup browser, hmmmI don't even recall a case in my 14 years of using a computer where I needed a backup browser, but as I said, you can have a portable version of any browser you want aside. Get rid of teh IE!!
-
I have chrome portable on a USB.

After the Europe fiasco(Microsoft was fine big and was forced to provide an IE free Windows), it is safe to remove IE. Before that, not all built in application were clean of IE dependent code.
However, I see on point of removing it as for the rare case of some badly written application, they may still assume IE presence. When there are programs that expect physical presents of page file, anything can happen!
Just don't open it and set the default browser to chrome or whatever is good enough. At best you save a few MB of space(the key functionalities are still there). -
It's your choice OP but IE9 is a pretty nice browser and the reviews back that up. MS did a nice job with the security.
-
I agree! I like IE9 quite a lot. I just find that I never use it.
-
Doesn't updating to IE9 change a few things in Windows Explorer itself too?
-
Does it?
I mean, it's not like most of the IE9 files are gone anyways. I still get IE9 related security updates, just some of the files have been removed and the program itself is gone. -
That was in 1995 buddy
No it does nothing to Explorer anymore
-
And looks like you don't go outside the box than when it comes to computing and using a browser.
Safe to remove IE9 in Windows 7?
