I currently own an HP dv6130 laptop.

I'm looking to buy an additional dv6000 because I love this particular product, but I do NOT want to deal with the Vista that I know will come pre-loaded. My question is, can I use the XP install disks from my dv6130 on ANY dv6000 or is it very model specific?

If I CAN'T do this, what is my next best option. I know there are threads on here about downgrading from Vista to XP if somebody could perhaps point me to the appropriate one.

    thanks,

    Brian

Installing XP on the DV pavilions isnt an easy task. Go to the HP forum and read the stickys. It can be a pain to install.

I know it's a pain in the neck to install from scratch. What I'm asking is if all the dv6000 series install disks work in every dv6000 laptop or are they model specific (i.e. the dv6130 will not work in a dv9610).

If its a recovery disk bi HP then no.

If its a MS XP clean install disc then yes.

XP discs for dv6000 can be used on other 6000s BUT they have keys/licenses tied to the ONE computer they came with, so your gonna have to buy an MS disc and take the headache road to installing XP.
