I have an NP300V5A-S02FR (bought from France, similar to NP300V5AH) and I downloaded SW update to prepare for upgrading to windows 8. I downloaded all the upgrades, which were primarily the samsung application suite, but they still show as incompatible with the windows upgrade assistant. Also, i never received an upgrade for the BIOS. any idea when that's coming? Should I just upgrade to win 8 without UEFI?

Hi berrymonster, and welcome to the forums. :)

To my knowledge, you don't need any proprietary software to be able to install and run the upgrade assistant, let alone for preparing the system to be Windows 8 compatible/eligible. As for "upgrading" the BIOS, unless Samsung provides an overhaul to that system's BIOS to convert it to UEFI, you're stuck with what you have. A typical BIOS update will only address known issues; flashing it will not convert it to UEFI unless Samsung provides that in the future (and I don't know of any word on that). But you can still perform the Windows 8 upgrade even without UEFI. :)
