    @Papusan

    Thank you for info!!

    I had problems downloading. Guru 3D has only 5.3.0 (listed as 5.3.1), Samsung official page says downloads daily limit exceeded LOL

    Here is the link if needed.

    @jaybee83

    Speeds as advertised, compared to stock XG5 writes are much better, so games and programs install really faster.

    It runs quite hot on controller side, so I have taken some plastic off the laptop metal backplate, put 0.5 mm Gelid pad on top and 1 mm pad on the bottom of 970.

    I filled the space between laptop backplate and top of the ssd with about 5 mm (30-40 layers) of aluminium tape.

    I never exceeded 65C on controller since, no matter the load and time. Backplate sucks it all.

    Without his 'heat-sink' I was getting 70C (throttling temp.) only installing windows updates.

    LOL, that is hilarious... The way they draw airflow - this will not happen, most of the air will go up as soon as it will reach the end of the fan ;-)

    *rofl* yep, i didnt say anything about it being necessary :D passive heatsinks have been proven to be absolutely fine to keeping the controller below throttling temps.

    however, with PCIe 4.0 around the corner and much higher bandwidths available, it could very well be that next-gen SSD controllers will get much hotter due to higher stress... in those cases, a small fan MIGHT not be redundant anymore. but only time will tell.
