Apparently Samsung Magician allows me to enable hardware encryption in Bitlocker by secure wiping the HDD and clean installing Windows. Has anyone successfully done this and understands how it works? Does Bitlocker manage the encryption key in this case, or is it left to Samsung's devices? If so, how does it work - do I get prompted by a password by some Samsung software pre-boot? If not then I guess this is potentially open to all those recently discovered SED exploits...

While we are on the subject, has anyone used any Opal SED management software like WinMagic and could comment on how they manage keys / pre-boot authentication?

Consider using Bitlocker software encryption. It is more reliable and secure, and both performance and battery life penalties are negligible.

Yep, I'm considering that, although still wondering if someone used any TGC Opal management software like WinMagic SecureDoc.
