I'm not sure if this should be posted in hardware section or software but since I have changed a few components in my laptop and the issue still occurs I figured maybe its a bug in windows.
-------------------
Everytime I did a fresh windows install on all 3 core i7 I owned (2630QM, 2920XM ES, 2860QM) it will stay at 800Mhz (100x8) in idle in balanced mode and will raise to x16 or x32 or in the 2860QM case x36 max to satisfy the demand then throttle down without load.
This is what I prefer so the system will be cool when im not using it and load up required Mhz automatically when needed.
But after a while I'm not sure what triggered it but the CPU will stay at x33+ in balanced mode.
I could change the maximum processor state in power settings to the clock I want but then it will just stay at that exact clock unless i change to another profile.
Is there anything I can do to revert it back to normal as in the first paragraph?
I opened both CPU-Z and the Core temp gadget to detect FSB and they both show the same. Even HWinfo64.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated![]()

Same problem on the 2720QM. I think it's "stuck" at 800MHz due to design, as in it'll save power when the CPU isn't doing anything intensive. So long as your normal computer activities don't lag under 800MHz, I wouldn't worry too much about it. CPU-Z always reports my CPU as 800MHz, though I can still do intensive things like VMs and multiple browsers/Word docs/Excel/etc all at once without problem.

please check back, thats not really what I meant, I would like that but somethign happened and the CPU stays at high clocks
-
Oh, sorry about that. Not sure what do to if it's stuck at x33+ :/

Run throttlestop and check what your multiplers are. I've had trouble getting accurate readings from HWiNFO and CPU-z on core i CPUs.
-
its no different there
, and I do belive the CPU actually run at those frequencies since the fan works harder and more noticeable than if it runs at idle 100x8

hmm I will try that later when I finished my work but yes I am currently on the latest BIOS available for my laptop.

Same thing happened with me
.
I figure it out one of the program stucked in and used my cpu . Check in your task manager (ctrl-alt-del don't forget to hit shows processes from all users) you might have the same problem -
Can you Share in your case what exact program or process is using that much frequencies? I do have lots of stuff running in the taskbar though.

wow so the culprit here due to attilaistvan is the Mamba configurator, it used up to 15-17 "CPU" in task manager, I closed it, wait for a few seconds and ta da, its normal again! Thank you so much attilaistvan, rep'd
