(Vista) Whenever I plug in the external LCD monitor, I have to re-adjust it's resolution and re-adjust it's position relative to the laptop screen... kind of a pain. Widows always wants to default it to the native resolution of the laptop (1440x900) instead of the monitor's native 1680x1050, and make it to the right of the laptop screen. I have the external monitor above the laptop...

It also happens whenever we do the "Switch User" command.

Is there a way to have Windows Vista remember a custom resolution and position like this for an external monitor?

    Thanks,

    Pete

What laptop do you have, what video card do you have, and what drivers are installed?

I believe there should be a setting for a custom monitor somewhere in the nVidia control panel. Have you explored all of the settings?

Well I have looked through all the settings and I could find nothing about custom positions. I was able to set preferred resolutions, but not positions! Why the feck do they make you always have to start in side-by-side mode??

There has to be a solution to this!!?

It depends what you select initially. You have to set the options when you first plug in the monitor, or it will keep defaulting back to it. Go to windows mobility center and choose to use only the external monitor, not mirror nor extended. I think the reason you're having the issue is that you have both the LCD and external enable and if they're working together, windows sometimes acts weird and does not give the full range of resolutions, maybe only 3-4 settings. Or you can try to switch the drivers.
